Appalachian sights, sounds, and tastes permeate Tamarack's "Taste of West Virginia" food court managed by The Greenbrier. Only 15-minutes north of Winterplace ski resort, the court offers a sampling of gourmet and down-home foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast includes such West Virginia favorites as egg biscuits with savory country ham and cheese, and fried green tomatoes, fresh apple fritters, and country gravy. For lunch or dinner, sample Tamarack's award-winning "Jake's Chili" fresh West Virginia's own "Jarroll's Italian Sausage," or a fried-green-tomato sandwich with Swiss cheese, bacon, and raspberry honey-mustard. Local favorites include West Virginia rainbow trout and Tamarack's barbecue sandwich. Of course, your meal would be remiss without dessert -- perhaps homemade cobbler or The Greenbrier's famous bread pudding with vanilla sauce. Tamarack is open January-March 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and April-December 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed Christmas Day.
